I am an artist and tutor

Jan Dagley

I am a design-led abstract artist interested in exploring boundaries – the boundaries between design and fine art, between word and image, between poetry and painting and the boundaries between representation and abstraction.

My work reflects my emotional response to both the environment and to poetry. The two responses often work in parallel – certain environments remind me of specific poems while certain poems can capture, for me, the essence of specific environments.

My interest in poetry stems from my first degree in English. I now also have a BA and MA in Fine Art. Prior to becoming a professional artist I was a design consultant in industry. I regularly exhibit and have had numerous one-man shows. My work is in collections throughout Europe and Australasia.

Also an art tutor and qualified teacher, I like to help people express themselves and find their own ‘voice’ while developing a springboard for further progress.

Recent Paintings
Here you will find my most recent paintings. They are either oils or mixed media. If one you like is already sold I am happy to accept commissions although the new work will never be the exactly the same. Once I start a painting it often develops a life of its own and there’s no stopping it!

Monoprints & Collage
My oil monoprints on Japanese rice paper are in response to the haiku. There’s also some work in response to literature, some of which was commissioned, as well as monochromatic monoprints incorporating drawing and collage and mounted on coloured Perspex.

Painting Archive
Some of these paintings are still relatively recent while others are from previous exhibitions a while
back. Let me know if you are interested in any of them. Commissions accepted.

Workshops
Located in my large purpose-built studio in Esher, overlooking countryside, these mixed media workshops are for small groups so there is plenty of one-to-one tuition. They are designed to be a safe, fun, relaxing environment where students can develop their full potential.
